Can anyone suggest a home made energy drink?

Home Made Energy
folb695 asked:

I go running at 5 in the morning every day, when i wake up i generally drink an energy drink to wake me up and get me going. As everyone knows its very expensive to have an energy drink everyday. So, I’m looking for a drink that i can make at home that would be like an energy drink for these morning runs. Thanks for all answers.

This is not a drink, but a bannana is your best bet for an instant boost.

Coffee works as well, I always have a cup before a morning run or workout.

One that I enjoy is a recipe called “Haymaker’s Oat Water,” as follows:

    1 cup rolled oats
    1 cup unsulphured molasses
1 cup apple cider vinegar or lemon/lime juice
    1 gallon water

Combine and leave at room temperature overnight, then refrigerate.

This makes for a somewhat sweet and tart drink, so you could cut back a bit on the molasses and acid to taste. You could also simply mix some lemon/lime with raw honey in water to taste, not too sweet. A piece of fruit might also be a nice early morning snack before exercise, as most are easily and rapidly digested. Perhaps even a cup of weak coffee or tea would be a nice morning pick up, although it could simply make you jittery.

Great answer from Bret. You could also try making a fruit smoothie with banana, yoghurt, oatmeal, fresh orange juice and any other fruit you fancy throwing in. The natural sugars in the fruit and oatmeal give you slow releast energy boost.
