There is no way that you can produce your own electricity for less than what you are buying it for from your power company.
If there was a less expensive way to produce the electricity, your power company would be using it, believe me.

The simple answer is
If it would be simple it would be on the market
Why would you want to depart from the utility power?
A small generator will not provide the energy demand the utility provides and
It will cost about 1 L per hour of gasoline.
